Driftstone on the Delaware

**We didn't write a journal, but these are some of the highlights of the trip**

On this trip we had the pleasure of Cheryl's company. The first thing we saw when we got there was our nice site. It was on a corner and offered a view of the fields across from the site. Right after lunch we took a swim in the built in pool. The pool was always usually quiet and we were able to swim around freely. Katie learned to swim on this trip by jumping in and taking off. One of our favorite things about this campground was that it was located right on the Delaware River. We were able to swim and wade in the river. We also enjoyed fording the river to Driftstone Island. Here we were able to swing like Tarzan and Jane on the long vines hanging from the trees. One afternoon we rented canoes and took turns paddling up and down the river. One of the most exciting moments occurred when a sudden storm appeared out of nowhere while we were having dinner. Despite warnings of the approaching storm from our neighbor Duke, the storm hit us unprepared. As the black clouds rolled in and the winds gusted we quickly tried to put everything away that was outside. Then, the sky opened up, the rain poured down upon us, and we were hit with gale force winds. While the kids sought refuge in the van, Mom and Dad tried unsuccessfully to roll up the awning that was being flipped over the top of the camper. The storm blew out as quickly as it had blown in. Other than some damage to the awning we were all safe and sound.
