Harold Parker State Forest

Day 1:

This morning we left for Harold Parker State Forest in Massachusetts around 8 AM. Within an hour we were in and out of New York City. But, on I-95N in Connecticut were hit a lot of traffic. Miles ahead and hours ago there was a truck fire. It all started when the truck carrying car batteries slammed against the guard rail. The fire caused the tires of the truck to burn. Therefore, the truck couldn't be towed away. It would have to be cut into pieces and placed on flatbed tow trucks. Once the truck was off the road, the highway would have to be repaved because battery acid leaked from the truck and burned holes in the road. 5 hours later we finally made it around the accident. We reached the park around 5 PM. That evening after dinner we walked around the campground and to Frye Pond. Then, we went back to the campsite and relaxed around the fire.

Day 2:

This morning we decided to go to Salem, Mass. before Uncle Rich, Sam, Uncle Rob, and Tim arrived. We left after our breakfast around 10 AM. We went to the Salem Witch Museum and saw a presentation about the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. Afterwards, we had lunch at a McDonald's. When we got back to the campground Uncle Rich and Sam were setting up their tents. After they had lunch Uncle Rob and Tim arrived. Then, we blew up our two inflatable rafts and brought them down to the "beach" at Frye Pond. We took turns rowing around the lake. There were countless tadpoles swimming at the surface and Sam found a large snail. Later that night we told stories around the campfire and roasted marshmallows.

Day 3:

After breakfast we went on a hike in the forest before Uncle Rob came. We hiked along an old road in the forest towards Barry Pond. We found a lot of pink lady slippers along the way. When we got to the lake we walked along a road towards a picnic area. We then found a trail that took us back to the road we originally started at. When we got back we all had lunch and waited for Uncle Rob to arrive while playing catch. Then, we went to the Taylor Sawmill Historic Site in Derry, NH. This is a 200 year old up and down sawmill powered by a water wheel. Then, we went to America's Stonehenge. This is similar to the Stonehenge in England. There are certain stones that point out the exact place where the sun rises on certain dates such as the summer and fall equinoxes. Afterwards, we went back to the campground.

Day 4:

Today we had to leave. Uncle Rich and Sam helped us pack up the camper. We left around 10 AM and arrived back home around 3:30 PM. Luckily, we didn't have as much traffic to deal with this time.
